Lowering the bar
8 Aug
I volunteered at my church’ s youth group tonight. While the messages are usually good (and I wish I’d heard them when I was a teenager), today’s speaker made a side comment towards the end that left me thinking.
He asked the teenagers there to grow up.
You see, society expects you to do this much, but if you can’t, or decide not to do it, then everything’s okay. (“You tried your best. I’ll tell you good things, as to avoid damaging your self worth”). We then lower the bar, rather than encouraging people to grow.
Do you want to do just enough?

In some aspects of my life, yes, yes I do. I can then devote energies to do way more in different areas.
